クリスマスの曲といえば、ＷＡＭ！のLast Christmasとか山下達郎とかが定番ですが、私としては、The Bandの最後のアルバムIslandsに収められたＡ面の最後の曲、Chrisｔmas Must Be Tonight　ですね。

このアルバムは第1曲目のRight as Rainから、もうなにか泣きそうになるぐらいいい曲です。
今は亡きリチャード・マニュエルのLet the Night Fallはなんといっていいかわからない。
私にとっては、無敵のアルバムの一つ。
もちろん,2作前のアルバムNorthern Lights-Southern Cross（南十字星）が彼らの最高傑作であることには間違いないですが。

ああ、でも、Chrisｔmas Must Be Tonightを歌っているリック・ダンコは、あれほどカッコ良かったのに、いまはデブデブの田舎オヤジになっていました。まあ年月とはそんなもんなのでしょう。

羊の群れとともにじっと待つ
凍てつく冬の夜に　天使たちが歌う
そして　夢の中で私は聞いた
　　恐れるな　ともに喜びあおう
　　今こそ新しい時代の夜明け
　　王の誕生をみなで称えよう
